All about the Cancun & Mexico City.

Mexico is a country in the North American continent, geographically in the south of the United States of America. It is the fifth largest country in the American continent and the 13th largest in the world by land mass. It is the 11th most populous country in the world. Mexico is divided into 31 states and a special federally administered city of Mexico City, which is the capital city of the country.

Mexican civilization dates back to about 8000 BC and is counted as one of the most ancient in the world. Civilizations such as Aztec, Maya and Teotihuacan have known to have emerged from the Mexican civilization. The war with America between 1846 and 1848 led to a defeat of the Mexican forces and this resulted in the USA’s accession of a number of northern territories of the then state of Mexico. The modern state of Mexico is understood to have emerged subsequent to the Mexican revolution of 1910 and thereafter the promulgation of the constitution in 1917.

Mexico is very rich in culture and history and therefore ranks amongst the top destination for tourists around the world. As for the number of UNESCO world heritage sites, it ranks the first in the American continent and seventh in the world. As of last year, it ranked the sixth in the number of tourist arrivals in the world. A huge majority of arrivals in Mexico are from the USA, followed by Europe and Asia. There has been a huge interest, of late, in India and Indian tourists are flocking to the country, owing to its beautiful beaches both on the Pacific coast and the eastern coast. Cancun, on the eastern coast has become a very popular beach resorts town with tourists from the USA, Canada and the far off Asia.

Mexican cuisine is of Spanish origin, having been established during the Spanish colonization and is a mixture of corn, pepper, calabazas, avocado, sweet potato, and beans being of native origin. Ancient Mexicans used to cook food in ovens at ground level, grinding a number of spices. Spaniards brought in pork, beef, sugar, milk, chocolate etc and now these have become staples in Mexican food. There is some similarity between the Indian cuisine and Mexican food in that a number of spices which are common to both the cuisines are used abundantly.
